The Hatfield Marine Science Center is located in South Beach Newport, Oregon on the Central Oregon Coast.
It is a must place to visit if you come to the Coast. For the most part, it is free to explore and is extremely educational in respect to marine life and how it fits into our complex world. But, I am not featuring the Center here.
Since I live in Newport, I have the privilege of finding out where all the cool places to walk are...besides the beaches.
One of the coolest walks my wife and I have found is the "HMSC Estuary Trail" which follows around part of Yaquina Bay and, ends up crossing some wetlands, mudlands whatever you want to call them.
For Birders: If you don't know what Brants are, they are kind of a small goose. There is a distant shot of them...three pics down..."Google them"! Bunches of them lully gagging on a beach. I couldn't get close enough for a detailed shot, though.
You can spot all kinds of birds in the estuary...you just have to look for them.
The photos taken here are a small sample of the things that you can see along the walk. Clam shells, buoys, boats on the bay...you name it.
