Toledo Oregon

If you ever visit the Oregon Coast, one of the cool places to visit is Toledo, Oregon...a tad east, and inland of Newport on the Central Coast.

It is an easy place to miss if you take Highway 20 from Corvallis to the Coast. You don't really see it from the highway as you approach Newport. And, then there's that quest to get to the beach instead of stopping in Toledo.

That's too bad! It's basically a mill town but it also has a neat artist community, a cool downtown, waterfront and railroad museum.

It was founded in 1866 by by John Graham and originally named  "Graham's Landing". Later it was renamed by Graham's son "Toledo" after Toledo, Ohio. And, he had a personal reason for the rename.

OK! First thing to do when you visit Toledo is to go to the Pig Feathers BBQ Joint. My wife and I think it's one of the best BBQ places we have ever ate at, period! You'll be shocked!

The second or, first place (depending if you want to eat right away or not) is to visit the Michael Gibbons Gallery.  Michael is an exceptional artist and has a super nice gallery for you to view his work.

The first two photos were taken on the waterfront. The next four taken at the Yaquina Pacific Railroad Museum.
