Over an hour south from Portland, Oregon is Albany (not that Albany) which houses a Historic Carousel Museum.
(Update: “Parade Magazine” on July
14, 2013 featured the Historic Carousel and Museum in Albany. It is
quite a write up and something that you will want to read.)
It has the privilege of having the world's largest public collection of Gustav Dentzel carousel pieces. A name synonymous with excellence in the pioneering and development of the hand-carved carousel.
My wife and I went to Albany to go on the 33rd Annual "Christmas Parlour Tour". More or less a tour of historic and beautiful homes, churches, libraries and museums...which Albany has a mind boggling amount of.
The Carousel Museum was part of the tour. Many of the carousel items depicted are from the work of volunteers. In some of the photos you see "works" in progress with the sketches in the background.
Oregon Public Broadcasting has featured the Museum on "Oregon Art Beat" and "Parade" magazine is in line to feature them also.
