What To Do In Yachats Oregon

There is a superb walk...Trail 804 in Yachats, Oregon (Central Oregon Coast) which parallels the ocean. It is about three quarters of a mile long.

Without a doubt it is, with extreme prejudice, one of the coolest walks you will ever take. The walk begins at Smelt Sands State Park and goes north until you run into a sandy beach area. There, you can mosey down to that beach and walk for miles more if you want.

The 804 walk consists of lava outcrops, basalt, tide pools and, beautiful vegetation...lots of wild flowers and plants...all on a well maintained trail. There is no way my camera could capture the beauty of this area.

The first photo here is a memorial, and off to the right in the second photo, to two young men who lost their lives here in a tragic accident. As my wife were walking we saw folks who were on the rocks, close to the ocean, with their backs turned to it...sneaker waves are common and deadly no matter what kind of a swimmer you are.

Enough of the lecture! Anyway, if you are even close to Yachats (pronounced Ya Hots) it is a must place to visit and walk...bring a camera, too!
