Lincoln City Kite Festival 2014

The theme for the June 28-29, 2014 Annual Lincoln City Kite Festival was "Unleased".  A two day kite flying adventure full of fun for everyone from kids to adults.

This is my first time going to the Lincoln City Kite Festival so, it was a great treat and, I can't wait to go next year...especially with camera in hand.

I have been to the World Kite Museum in Long Beach, Washington but, I didn't see any kites there the size of the ones I saw on the beach in Lincoln City. Some of them are gigantic...for example the whale kite, in the first photo is the size of a real whale.

The sixth photo down, you will even get a better perspective of size with the octopus or, squid one (also, in the first pic here)...they are huge. They are also super colorful and very creative.

What really caught my attention, though were the "Jelly Fish" kites (second photo). They are small but you won't get any cooler...kite-wise. They emulate a real swimming Jelly Fish perfectly when the kite is flying in the air.

The last photo here is of a guy digging in the sand and building a masterpiece. He was some distance from the kite festivities and just having a ball. Why not?

Afghan Kites

These are photos of some Afghan (Afghani) Kites as displayed at the "World Kite Museum" in Long Beach, Washington. They are among some of the most beautiful and intricate on exhibit.

The Museum has kites from many countries and, they are all different from each other in design...and tradition. Some are "fighting kites". The rules in kite fighting are simple...there are none!

Kites

The "World Kite Museum" in Long Beach, Washington is a great place to learn about the traditions, the designs behind all the kites from different countries. After all, they have some 1500 kites on exhibit.

Many kite designs go back centuries in many countries based on folklore, religion and so forth.

This post features more Japanese (Tako) Kites. They are beautifully designed and unique in every way!

The Japanese Kite

Back to the World Kite Museum in Long Beach, Washington. Some of the the coolest kites they had on exhibit were the Chinese Dragon Kites and the Japanese Kites.

Traditional Japanese Kites are painted with bright colored dyes and constructed from hand-made paper. Bamboo is usually used for the frames.

Dragon Kite

If you ever visit Long Beach, Washington one of the must things to do is visit the "World Kite Museum". It's fabulous!

It has over fifteen hundred kites on display from all over the world. The kids will love it and you will love it.

The Long Beach Peninsula is known for its kite flying festivals and some of the best known kite flyers visit frequently.
