Crescent City CA

Crescent City is a cool town located in Northern California. If you are coming from Oregon on Coastal Highway 101, it is really the first major place you come to.

I got the chance to get out and photograph one of the two super great lighthouses they have. One of them is offshore and was fogged in. The one featured here is the Battery Point (Crescent City Lighthouse).

Crescent City has a first-class park near the lighthouse...really impressive! Also, make sure you find the "Rumiano" Cheese Store for some impressive samples of their products.

The first five photos are of or very near the lighthouse...the last photo is of an abandoned ferry, once a museum, is well north of Crescent City.

Yaquina Bay State Park

Just before you cross the Yaquina Bay Bridge going south you can explore Yaquina Bay State Park off to the right. The highlights are the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, the Bay Bridge and the magnificent view from the Park. And, of course, a cool beach.

The Park is a little larger than it looks...you have to get out and explore and, even walk up some steep inclines here and there but, it's worth it.

The Yaquina Bay Lighthouse shown here goes way back to 1871 and now is mainly a museum. In the first photo here it is shuttered. I sneaked in a shot taken years and years ago with the caretaker at the front door.

The rest of the photos are "view shots"...I didn't include the beach, though.
