Tall Ships | Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain

The "Tall Ships"..."Lady Washington" and "Hawaiian Chieftain" are in Newport, Oregon moored in Yaquina Bay. They are scheduled for a thirteen day stay from May 14th through the twenty sixth.

They have walk-on tours scheduled at different hours during their stay and, you can go on up to a three hour sailing excursions at certain times. They even have mock skirmishes between the two tall ships at certain times.

They offer hands-on experience sailing and other types of educational courses. Kids just love it! Well, adults, too!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

One of the coolest and most photographed lighthouses in Oregon is the Yaquina Head Lighthouse which is part of the Yaguina Head Natural Area in Newport. It is Oregon's tallest lighthouse.

Built in 1872, that, and the surrounding area is under the control of the Bureau of Land Management. It is a first-class natural area for all to enjoy.

The area includes an interpretive center and gift shop. There are many tidepools nearby to study and learn about marine life.

All photos here were taken as the sun was setting. The first pic is the lighthouse itself, of course.

The second, is the memorial at the base of the lighthouse...dedicated to fisherman lost at sea in the Northwest. The third photo is looking from the lighthouse toward Newport. And, finally a glimpse of a setting sun.

Oregon Coast Tourist Attractions

A must thing to do if you visit Oregon is to transport yourself to Newport on the Central Oregon Coast. It is easy to get to and there are wonderful accommodations to be had throughout the area.

Besides cool places to visit like Nye Beach, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Yaquina Lighthouse, there is the Historic Bayfront located on Yaquina Bay in Newport.

The Bayfront sort of reminds me of the classic New England coastal town.

The first pic is of a seagull waiting for, maybe some crab to be thrown his way. The second and third photos are of some of the hundreds and hundreds of boats in the Bay. Yaquina Bay is home to the largest fishing fleet in Oregon.

The fourth photo is of stacked fishing nets and the fifth, a door to a restaurant located on one of the piers.

One of my favorite shots is of the Sea Lions, down below, perched on one of the mooring docks.
