There are many cool neighborhoods in Portland, Oregon but one of the coolest is a section of Hawthorne Boulevard which consists of: just a guess, a stretch that runs downward from 39th Avenue to about 34th in Southeast Portland.
In that stretch is a collection of everything from major retailers, "Fred Meyers" and "Powell Books" to wall-to-wall small, and viable entrepreneurial shops. With most of those places featuring unusual things not readily available elsewhere. Ooh, did I mention that there's a "Ben and Jerry's"!
OK! Hawthorne Blvd is sort of a throwback to the Hippie thing that, over the years has added the Yuppie thing. Together it makes for a cool combination...Haight-Ashbury meets a reasonably priced and unstuffy Rodeo Drive...with tons of cool eating spots
.
So, if you are looking for things to do in Portland...this is MUST!
