Things To Do In Portland

If you ever visit Portland or, even if you live in Portland, one of the cool places to visit is the Sellwood Neighborhood.

It's located in the far reaches of the southeast part of the city and, very easy to get to. Besides all the cool older homes that have been renovated in Sellwood area, there is Antique Row, which stretches along 13th Avenue.

It's not all antiques though, there are chic restaurants, cool gift shops, bakeries and so on. What you do is stroll down thirteenth, take everything in, and then just maybe head down to the Sellwood Riverfront Park which is right on the Willamette River. It's just a few blocks away.

And/or, then head on over to Oaks Amusement Park, which is right next door.

Parallel to the amusement park is Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge which you can spend hours hiking around while taking in the wild life.

All are super fun places to take the family!

I posted a smattering of photos here taken along Thirteenth Avenue. It's not a photo tour...I just walk down the street and take photos...that's all! (Ooh, when you come to the "Sacred Root" sign photo that is a real live crow)

There will be more photos to come in future posts. Please enjoy!

Antiques and Collectibles in Oregon – Aurora Mills

Antiques and  Collectibles in Oregon
This is part three of the blog posts on Aurora Mills in Aurora, Oregon. Although, they specialize in vintage architectural items, it will surprise you on just how many cool antique and memorabilia things they have.

I want to, again thank them for letting take photographs of their establishment. These are nice folks and I would never hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Oregon Antique Dealers

Oregon Antique Dealers
Haven't been to every antique dealers in Oregon but I have been to quite a few and I would venture to say that Aurora Mills (located in Aurora) is one of the best, and one of the largest in the State..well, the Pacific Coast. And, it's only a short drive from the Portland Area.

Although, they specialize in architectural salvage (vintage windows, doors) they also have a first-class and vast collection of antiques and memorabilia items. In short, they have their ducks lined up, and they are nice people, too!

This is post number two on my photo journey into their establishment. If you missed it, here is post number one...Aurora Mills.

Aurora Mills

Aurora Mills
If you are bored, or even thinking about getting bored, a cool place to visit /investigate is Aurora Mills Architectural Salvage establishment in Aurora, Oregon...it will take “bored” away.

They specialize in vintage and antique house parts. That's a “duh”! As far as I can tell, they have anything and everything vintage, and antique for home or business, and stuff you would have never thought of on your own.

It's located about 20 miles south of Portland just off of Highway 99E. Actually, as you are heading south it's about the first thing you see off to your right as you enter Aurora.

I want to thank the folks at Aurora Mills for letting me take my camera and tripod through their place. They didn't have to allow it. They were more than kind...really appreciate it!

If it was your sole job to inventory everything they have in their place they would have to “carry you out” at the end of the day. To put it mildly, there is a whole lot of stuff to see both inside and out!

For camera folks, all the photos here are in High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR). If you don't know about this, three different exposures: an under exposure, spot on exposure, and an over exposed shot are taken within seconds of each other of the same thing, and then blended together in special software.  To put it another way, it takes 3 shots to get one final photo.

Oregon Natives and tourist have no excuse but to visit Aurora Mills. Sure, as a tourist you can go visit Multnomah Falls, downtown Portland , and the Oregon coast all by bus. But get off your duff and figure out a way to visit quaint Aurora...rent a car if you have to. Jeez!

Overall, the City of Aurora is one of the coolest and largest antique centers in Oregon. And, while you are there, make sure to go to Aurora Mills! You won't be sorry. Ooh, this is only Part one of the photos from there...so stay tuned!
