Photos Of Yaquina Head In The Fog

I just happen to live a short distance from the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area in Newport, Oregon. I can pretty much go there anytime I want and, I do quite often.

Most tourist that visit are interested in the lighthouse and the Visitors Center. However, for people that like to walk/hike there are several great trails to venture on, too. This is the time to get some great shots up high.

The day that these photos were taken, Yaquina Head was pretty well socked in. In the first photo here you can barely make out the lighthouse off to the right.

The second photo is looking down at the black sandy beach. The rest are random shots of the area.

Visiting Jacksonville Oregon

This is the third post, and last for now, on Jacksonville, Oregon. A quaint and beautiful place on this earth, whereas if you have been good and kind to others, maybe they will let you visit.

The first two photos are of the Bluedoor Garden Store...does it remind of a "big box storefront"? I don't think so! This is a typical storefront in Jacksonville which just adds oddles of charm to the town.

The third photo is of the Jackson County Courthouse built in 1883. The county seat has since moved to Medford.

The fourth photo is of "Merci". The fifth and sixth of the "Magnolia Inn". The 7th...just a cool house!

The last two photos were taken on our way home back to Newport..."The Table Rocks" and the "Sandy Creek Covered Bridge".

What To Do In Jacksonville, Oregon

If you are in Southern Oregon, make sure you visit Jacksonville...a tad off of the I5 Freeway, north of Ashland. Then, do something different, get out of your car and explore.

Here is the first post (Link) Jacksonville, Oregon !

Maybe, even arm yourself with some type of a camera, walk around and have at it!

There is absolutely nothing that is boring about Jacksonville. Unless, of course you are a mall freak...you won't find one of those.

It's a historic town. A town that had redone itself, or maybe more accurately, preserved itself and has opted for charm.

Jacksonville, Oregon

There are a lot cool places in Oregon and, Jacksonville, located in the south part of the State, is one of them.

It is a National Landmark with tons of neat old buildings that have been restored with pride. Just being in Placerville, California (Heart of California Gold Country) a few days earlier...have to say, sorry folks but, Jacksonville has a couple of legs up.

Armed with my Pentax and Canon cameras, I roamed the streets and photographed as much as I could...even in the rain. My lens got wet and I didn't notice it until I unloaded my pics to the computer.

I can't get all the photos I took on this entry so, there will probably be a couple of more posts.

Aquarium Village Newport Oregon \ Part Two

In the February 18, 2014 post I talked about the Aquarium Village in South Beach (Newport, Oregon). If you are visiting the Oregon Coast Aquarium or, Newport in general, the Village is a must place to take the family.

It is a short walk from the Oregon Coast Aquarium and it's neat to stroll around the Village and take in the pirate-like theme and, of course, take in some of the cool shops.

Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area

The Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is located at the north end of Newport, Oregon on the Central Oregon Coast.

It is run by the BLM and you can gain admittance for a rather nominal fee of $7.00. Better yet, if you are a senior you purchase a "Senior Lifetime Pass" for ten bucks that can be used over and over again at BLM facilities...and, that is a steal!

There are many things to see and do at Yaquina Head. They have an interpretive center which is first-class, there are tours of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse...not to mention visitations and learning experiences about tide pools, marine life, native birds and great hiking trails.

The first four photos were taken in the interpretive center that is well worth visiting...they have great exhibits and have a very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

This first photo is really the back of the movie theater...but makes for a cool shot. The next four photos are just an example of some of the exhibitions. And, experiment: I couldn't resist but twist the pixels of two barrels on display that they use to use to hold oil to light the lamp in the lighthouse.

Hiking around Yaquina Head is a treat. The following three photos were taken while hiking up Communication Hill Trail...a beautiful and scenic trip.
