Placerville California

Placerville, California (Formerly Old Dry Diggings, Dry Diggings and Hangtown) was sort of the destination point for a trip that we took from Newport, Oregon to California. It is in California's Gold Country...not far from Sacramento.

The town has a cool setting...it our case it was a "wet setting"! On our visit, they were getting some much needed rain, something that we, being Oregonians, are not use to.

The town  basically goes back to the "1848 Gold Rush". Now days, Placerville is a California Historical Site, as well as it should be. It is a quaint place with many period buildings.

The day we visited was not a great day for tours of any sort and, that was sad.

One thing we noticed was a bunch of traffic...cars all over the place! I would not want to be there in during the summer when the "real tourist" come to town. And, I would bet that parking can be a bear.

Anyway, a must place to visit...and, maybe taking a gold mine tour.
