If you are looking for a cool place to stay on the Central Oregon Coast, look no further than the "Historic Anchor Hotel" in Lincoln City (Taft District), Oregon.
My wife and I have driven by this place, I don't know how many times, and have never stopped. Well, we finally did and we are super glad we did!
We didn't stay overnight because we live a short distance away in Newport. But, we heard about how neat of a place it is and, so we decided to visit late morning.
And, we were treated like royalty with a first-class tour of the place. Hey! Most beach places are booked solid this time of the year...they could have told us to buzz off...they knew we wouldn't be staying there.
The whole place is decked out in memorabilia...I mean lots of memorabilia and, not just ordinary stuff. Nothing but cool, cool things...I'd say, maybe 1940's era.
A lot of time and effort went into decorating the whole hotel and grounds. I can't imagine all the trouble they had to go through to find all the treasures they have accumulated. And, keep them neat looking all the time.
I believe they have 23 rooms, each decorated in a little different way. In the rooms we saw, there was a main living area, with a bath between that area and a bedroom. Actually, a pretty good size area...much more space and privacy than a motel room.
The rates are very reasonable for all the amenities that the hotel has, plus, they serve a free homemade breakfast in the morning.
And, I would be so bold as to say you really won't see anything else like this hotel elsewhere.
