Historic Anchor Hotel Lincoln City Oregon

If you are looking for a cool place to stay on the Central Oregon Coast, look no further than the "Historic Anchor Hotel" in Lincoln City (Taft District), Oregon.

My wife and I have driven by this place, I don't know how many times, and have never stopped. Well, we finally did and we are super glad we did!

We didn't stay overnight because we live a short distance away in Newport. But, we heard about how neat of a place it is and, so we decided to visit late morning.

And, we were treated like royalty with a first-class tour of the place. Hey! Most beach places are  booked solid this time of the year...they could have told us to buzz off...they knew we wouldn't be staying there.

The whole place is decked out in memorabilia...I mean lots of memorabilia and, not just ordinary stuff. Nothing but cool, cool things...I'd say, maybe 1940's era.

A lot of time and effort went into decorating the whole hotel and grounds. I can't imagine all the trouble they had to go through to find all the treasures they have accumulated. And, keep them neat looking all the time.

I believe they have 23 rooms, each decorated in a little different way. In the rooms we saw, there was  a main living area, with a bath between that area and a bedroom. Actually, a pretty good size area...much more space and privacy than a motel room.

The rates are very reasonable for all the amenities that the hotel has, plus, they serve a free homemade breakfast in the morning.

And, I would be so bold as to say you really won't see anything else like this hotel elsewhere.

I took a lot of photos and, I only put so many on a post, so I will be featuring more in the near future ...stay tuned!

Seal Rock Oregon

Seal Rock Beach is located about ten miles south of Newport, Oregon. It's a beautiful place! And, that's not even giving it justice...it's like a very special gift from above and to be cherished.

Not really a place for the sunbathers. It's more of a "get in touch with nature and yourself type of place"!

I was fortunate to get down to the beach in a minus tide, early in the morning on a beautiful day. Seal Rock has a ton of tide pools filled with Starfish, Sea Anemones, Barnacles, Mussels and so on.

The first photo here depicts some huge and black shiny seaweed that has washed into this small cove. I set my tripod low to the ground and, shot fast, because the water was coming at me.

Houses of Ashland, Oregon

The other day I posted a little information about Ashland, Oregon (Link for post). In other words, if you ever come to Oregon, it is a must place to visit!

Forget the car...get out and walk and, take in the neighborhoods!

In this post, I walked around and photographed a smattering of homes in the area. Ashland, in general is a quaint place. Lots of neat, vintage homes.

Bandon Oregon

This is the last post, for now, featuring Bandon, Oregon on the Southern Oregon Coast. This will be a potpourri of photos...a sunset on Bandon Beach, a "Welcome To Old Town" sign, a cool street light, art on the boardwalk, and finally some neat recycled art.

Bandon Oregon Attractions

Bandon is located about 20 miles south of Coos Bay, Oregon. It is a small coastal and serene community and, one of the finest on the Oregon Coast.

It has a great "Old Town" setting, home to some very nice shops and restaurants. But, it's the beach area that makes it.

This post  features a few beach scenes that were taken on a beautiful morning overlooking some of "Oregon's Islands". The famous "Face Rock" is off the the left in the first photo. And, after that I did sort of a pano of the immediate beach area.

There will be more posts featuring Bandon...so, stay tuned!

Waldport Oregon

Waldport, Oregon is sixteen miles south of Newport. It's a cool little community with a little over 2000 folks.

It occupies both sides of Alsea Bay which has a beautiful bridge...a bridge which is a mix of nostalgic and new.

As Oregon Coastal communities go, I wouldn't call it a tourist-type place. Although, there is an interpretive center and some cool shops and, a couple of nice places to eat.

Munson Creek Falls

Munson Creek Falls
The tallest waterfall in the Oregon Coast Range is Munson Creek Falls at 319 feet. It's located just a tad south of Tillamook off of 101. (No...the above shot is not of the Falls!)

Once you get off the highway, getting to it can be a little bit of a task, meaning dodging around great big potholes.  You have to be on the alert for the obstacle course!

That's not a complaint it's a warning, it means you have to go slow or you will be replacing axles, tires, front ends and other things if you don't cool it. Plus, you have to be on the lookout for folks coming the opposite way. 'Tis one way traffic with, maybe two turnoffs along a long stretch of road.

Once you get to the parking area, the hike to the Falls is a piece of cake. Viewing the Falls in its entirety is not a piece of cake, however. There is a lot of foliage in the way. You can get a pretty good shot of the top of the Falls though.

Most of the photos here are of Munson Creek and not the Falls. The photo of the Falls I have altered because it looked like every other photo of the Falls that has been posted on the net.

For the techies, I shot bracketed shots with a Pentax DSLR...-2EV-0EV+2EV. Converted RAW and tonemapped in Photomatix and finalized in PSE. In some shots, I have a little blur in the foliage because of wind.
