Shore Acres Xmas Lights

One of a kind Christmas Greeting Cards of Shore Acres Park Lights on the Oregon Coast! (see below)

Shore Acres State Park is a very unusual state park south of Coos Bay on the Oregon Coast. Rather than just picnic benches and horseshoe pits, the Park has evolved into a "garden for all seasons"...a variety of beautiful plants and flowers that bloom according to the season.

And, this in itself is an excellent  reason to visit these gorgeous grounds. However, a fantastic tradition came about in 1987 when the Friends of Shore Acres Park strung a few lights in anticipation of the Christmas Holidays.

In its debut this drew some nine thousand folks to the park. Today, some 325,000 lights adore the landscape and draw some 50,000 visitors to these beautiful gardens during the holidays.

You can purchase these images in a variety of ways, wall art, life style, apparel, greeting cards, home decor, phone cases, beach. please see the link below this image and /or the slide shows below and, on the left side bar!

Impatiens

Impatiens are among the most beautiful flowers in the world!  They make for an outstanding border especially for Begonias.

They excel for shade gardens when you want vibrant color all season long. The plants bloom in just about every color.

You can grow them in containers or, in the ground. If conditions are right you can grow impatiens as an indoor plant.

The image has been converted to a digital painting that I hope you enjoy. It also has an abstract feel. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Yellow Iris

Schreiner's Iris Gardens is located north of Salem, Oregon. It is one of the finest Iris growing farms in the country.

They feature hundreds of different varieties/colors of Irises. Their featured gardens which are kept in immaculate shape year around, Irises or no Irises, really come into fruition in the spring.

Of course, this is a yellow Iris...a bearded Iris but, don't confuse it with a yellow flag Iris that is an  invasive ornamental perennial that can be a real problem.

Carson City Yard Art

Carson City is the capitol of Nevada. And, it is a cool place to visit...maybe take a break from the gambling thing.

Of note, they have an absolutely first-class historic home walking tour that is second to none. You have to get yourself situated downtown. The start of it is easy to find by asking one of the locals. In fact, there are easily found, and subtle clues on the sidewalks on which way you should go.

You will be amazed at the fabulous older, significant homes which includes the Governor's Mansion. Now, you observe the homes from the outside, not by going into the homes.

You will be amazed at what you will see and learn. The "Carson City Yard Art" is at the end of tour. Of course, depending on where you start. I thought that this yard was absolutely super cool.

It was small but, whimsical! Not a "Better Homes and Gardens" type of thing but just plain down to earth, practical and fun. Maybe, just a yard whereas you grab a beverage and catch the morning rays.

Canna Lilies - What's Not To Love

Some of the most gorgeous flowers in any yard are Canna Lilies.  However, our red ones are getting to the point of blooming out.

They are not a true lily, so to speak, but who cares?  They are perennials, have vivid colors, and they are easy to grow.  Not all flowers share that  distinction.

Flower Gardens Part Three

As mentioned in previous posts, my wife and I have a huge yard with lots of flower gardens.  In fact, maybe too many. Prior Posts:  Flower Gardens Part One    Flower Gardens Part Two.
However, other than trying to keep the workflow in the right direction, you have to sit back and think about the beauty of  the whole thing....the flowers, the plants, the trees.  What would we do without them?

If we moved to a retirement home, or a condo where you didn't have the facilities to have a vegetable garden, or a flower garden we would probably be bored to tears, or go bonkers.

The first photo is of a "Blanket Flower"...most unusual.  You are seeing mostly dead buds and not the blossoms.  But, what a beautiful plant!
