Historic Home Tour | Dayton Oregon

This is the last post, for now, on the cool town of Dayton, Oregon and the "Historic Home Tour" that took place on August 17th.

The first photo is of the "Mellinger House" constructed in 1904. The second photo is a 1957 Buick parked in front of the Brown Bag Deli...the folks that were giving out free ice cream cones to people on the tour.

The third photo is the old vinegar works in historic Dayton. The fourth photo is one of the vintage automobiles parked in front of one of the homes on the tour.

The historic homes were very impressive...but, it was really the home owners that were impressive. No snobs...just very nice people sharing their homes.

Dayton Oregon Historic Places

Back to the "Historic Home Tour" in Dayton, Oregon. Last Saturday, August 17th was a super nice day to visit some of the historic homes in Dayton.

The first home here was built in 1921 and one of the homes close to the start of the tour or, the end, depending on what direction (ha!) you were going.

I couldn't resist photographing the gentleman sitting behind the wheel of this gorgeous vintage Ford. He was sitting there when my wife and I started the tour and, he was sitting there when we finished hours later. It was toasty out too.

The second photo, a historic local photo, one of many on display at the First Baptist Church. The third is the back of one of the historic homes, on the tour that is, not only a gorgeous home, but also has a gorgeous yard and gardens.

And, finally the fourth photo is the carriage house that belongs to the Joel Palmer House (built 1857) which is now a restaurant. OK! Everybody else shoots the front of the house!

I'd be amiss if I forgot to mention the Brown Bag Cafe which was giving folks, that participated in the tour, free ice cream cones. What a nice and generous touch! When you are in Dayton...check them out. Next time we are even the least bit close to them we plan on having lunch there.

Go on a historic home tour in the big city and see if they give you a free ice cream cone or, even a free drink of water.

Mural Painting In Dayton Oregon

More on the Dayton, Oregon Historic Home Tour. Besides the historic homes and, some very nice people, were some excellent mural paintings.

They are on the side of the "Seufert Winery" on Ferry Street. The artist is Kev Kohler who is from Salem. It is a very nice tribute to a great town and the surrounding area.

My photography doesn't do them justice...these are some extremely nice murals from an extremely talented artist.

Best I can tell the first mirror depicts a steamboat navigating the nearby Yamhill River in olden days.

The second, the areas abundant crops and the third the area's vineyards.

The fourth, the Gazebo at the City Park, which looks to be depicting, perhaps, Cinco De Mayo. And, finally Dayton High.

Dayton Oregon

Some photos from the “Historic Home Tour “ In Dayton, Oregon on August 17, 2013.

Dayton was founded in 1850 and has quite a history. It's between McMinnville and Newberg and is a little over fifty miles from the Oregon Coast.

The first home on the self- guided walking tour was the Joel Palmer House which has been turned into a restaurant.  Maybe a photo in a future post.

I am including a real variety of photos both historic and the present...stay tuned for more posts.

The first photo here is the back of one of the historic homes on the tour. The house, the gardens pristine!

The second is, an vintage automobile parked in front of one of the historic homes on the tour.

The third photo is an art piece (with permission) composed by one of the home owners on the tour. The fourth, the gazebo in the City Park. And, finally an historic photo of a gentleman and his celery displayed at the First Baptist Church.

Did I mention that the tour included free ice cream cones and wine tasting? What a nice touch by a bunch of nice folks.

And, I will mention that when you go on a tour like this in the big city...the homes are not going to be cooler, the folks are not going to be more hospitable, there probably won't be free ice cream cones and wine tasting. And, it will cost you at least twice as much...maybe three.
