Hood River, Oregon is one of the windsurfing and kiteboarding (link) capitals of the world. And, rightfully so. The river, the wind, the people and the town are cool!
But, also, there are other things to do. Hood River Valley is also an apple, pear, cherry paradise. Get yourself going south toward Mt.Hood and you'll run into all kinds of fruit farms. The weather conditions for growing quality fruit is superb. The scenery phenomenal!
The Valley is well worth visiting! If nothing else, take the Mt.Hood train from Hood River to Parkdale and back again...a cool trip. Make sure you find the ice cream place on the main drag in Parkdale. They make you up an ice cream cone that won't wait and price is ridiculously low.
Did I talk about all kinds of cool wineries to visit in Hood River...cool places to eat with gorgeous views? And, cool gift shops all over the place.
In Hood River we ate at the "Trilliam Cafe" on the main drag, downtown. My wife had Mac & Cheese and I had the Tuna Fish and Chips...very tasty...good place to go.
The place we normally go to eat when we visit is the Sixth Street Bistro. You can sit outside, catch a super nice view and enjoy scrumptious food.
You can't really see Mt. Hood from downtown Hood River. You have to get up on the upper part...and, I do mean there are some hills to go up!
A must place to visit is the Apple Valley Country Store, south of town. On your way visit the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM) on top-of-the hill. It's a ways out. A marvelous place to take the whole family. Here are a couple of posts I have made in case you missed them: Vintage Airplanes (link) and Collector Cars At WAAAM (link).
