Manzanita Oregon

A beach town that doesn't get a lot of tourist, publicity, traffic, whatever is Manzanita, Oregon. One reason is, you don't have to drive through it like you do Lincoln City, Seaside, Newport and other beach towns.

It's off of Highway 101. If you are a tourist, you can easily miss it and, it will remain a secret place.

However, for many Oregonians it's not a secret. It's located not too far south of Cannon Beach and Seaside. It's a quaint little community that is a bigger than it looks...it has a pretty good size residential area but, a small downtown area.

There are some cool shops, eating places and, if nothing else, a very nice beach to walk on.

North Oregon Coast Photography | Astoria

The first photographs in this series were taken at Fort Clatsop. The second is Astoria...no not New York, and a real favorite place to go.

Astoria is one of the most charming places in Oregon to visit. Lots of cool houses and lots of things to do and see. The hangup is: “The Weather”!

Even if the weather was half as nice as Monterey you wouldn't be able to get within twenty miles of the place. Ooh, as an Oregonian I hope the weather stays like it is!

Here are some pics of the area. Just a few...no real touristy things except the Flavel House! All are High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR). Enjoy!

Front Of Fort Clatsop - Winter Stay For Lewis & Clark Expedition

Oregon has a beautiful coastline. No matter where you go on the coast, even inland, you are bound to find beauty.

A lot of Oregon's history is on the North Coast. This is because of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The mouth of the Columbia and the Pacific Ocean is where they ended up on their lengthy exploration from the east.

They stayed a winter in a place called Fort Clatsop, which is just south of Astoria and not to far from the Pacific. This winter retreat has been recreated to reflect on this monumental period in US history and I had the opportunity of photographing it.

Also, I had the opportunity of photographing parts of Astoria and Seaside., Oregon which will be featured in future posts.

All the photos are in High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR) which brings out all the detail in a scene. Please enjoy!
