Aquarium Village Newport Oregon

Within walking distance from the Oregon Coast Aquarium is the "Aquarium Village"...located at 3101 SE Ferry Slip Road in South Beach (Newport, Oregon). It's kind of a kid thing, in the decor sense...pirates and nautical things galore! However. there are some cool and unusual shops you won't find elsewhere.

So, it kinds to end up to be a family thing. You shop...the kids do the pirate thing. It's a colorful place, probably one of a kind, and worth visiting just to see the life-like pirates if nothing else.

But, before you do anything in the Village you have to visit the Fishtales Cafe and have a bowl of  "Slumgullion" which is their version of Clam Chowder served with three different types of white cheese, shrimp and garlic bread...a five star experience! And, they also have wonderful Halibut Fish and Chips at a very reasonable price.

Cafe Mundo Newport

Since moving to Newport, Oregon I have been impressed with just about everything in this small coastal community. However, something that really has stood out, other than great restaurants and people, is the art.

And, one may find some cool art in unusual settings like a restaurant...namely, Cafe Mundo in the Nye Beach District.

So, following is a smattering of the art that is spread throughout their establishment. Some of it hangs on walls...some of it hangs from the ceiling and, some of it is painted on tabletops.  My wife asked if it was, "New Orleans-Style art"? The answer was, "Nothing that specialized"!

The outside of Cafe Mundo is deceiving in respect to what you find once inside. Although, I wouldn't call the outside mundane...maybe call it different...maybe interesting.

The bottom line is: you go to a restaurant to eat, not look at art. But , the art is a super attraction...a bonus.

The bottom line is the food is great, too! My wife had the Angus Burger with a fresh green salad, with a poppy seed dressing. I had an Albacore Burger with the same kind of salad and dressing.

Both were fresh, delicious and plentiful plus, fairly priced and with excellent service.
