Buoy Art

Hobo Junction is on the Long Beach, Peninsula in Washington State. And, Hobo Junction has to be the "Buoy Capitol" of the world.

There are so many buoys and other nautical type things that it is almost overwhelming. There is a bunch of everything.

I couldn't help but photograph this scene and turn into a buoy art piece. And, I am only depicting a small part of it.

The image was converted to High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR) and then converted to a digital painting.

Although, it's right on one of the main Long Beach drags, Hobo Junction is real easy to miss since it is on a side street. If you are looking for nautical decor, well?

Afghan Kites

These are photos of some Afghan (Afghani) Kites as displayed at the "World Kite Museum" in Long Beach, Washington. They are among some of the most beautiful and intricate on exhibit.

The Museum has kites from many countries and, they are all different from each other in design...and tradition. Some are "fighting kites". The rules in kite fighting are simple...there are none!

Outdoor Statues

It's fun to go around a town and photograph the art a place has to offer. And, Long Beach, Washington has a lot of outdoor art to offer.

There are statues, sculptures and wall art...all different mediums.

Although many of the sculptures depict sea life, there are statues of William Clark (think Lewis & Clark) here and there. He lead a separate expedition which had there first encounter with the Pacific Ocean.

Kites

The "World Kite Museum" in Long Beach, Washington is a great place to learn about the traditions, the designs behind all the kites from different countries. After all, they have some 1500 kites on exhibit.

Many kite designs go back centuries in many countries based on folklore, religion and so forth.

This post features more Japanese (Tako) Kites. They are beautifully designed and unique in every way!

The Japanese Kite

Back to the World Kite Museum in Long Beach, Washington. Some of the the coolest kites they had on exhibit were the Chinese Dragon Kites and the Japanese Kites.

Traditional Japanese Kites are painted with bright colored dyes and constructed from hand-made paper. Bamboo is usually used for the frames.

Buoys

Hobo Junction in Long Beach, Washington is noted as specializing in Antiques and Collectibles according to a couple business descriptions on Google . Unfortunately, when I went there they were closed.

However, what I noticed is, they may specialize in Antiques and Collectibles but what they have is buoys!

Hundreds and hundreds of buoys...I surmised that they may be the buoy capital of the world. I had my camera with me, they weren't around, so I hope that they don't mind the photos and the publicity.

The last two photos are from places around Hobo Junction.
