Floral Art

The English Rose is one of the most vibrant flowers in the world...full of life...full of color! And, they flourish beautifully where I live in the Pacific Northwest!

Another name for the English Rose is the Austin rose or, David Austin. They were introduced by him in 1969. His goal was to create rose bushes that would combine the best properties of the old roses, introduced before 1867, and  modern roses, such as Grandifloras.

To accomplish this, Austin crossed the old roses with some of the modern roses to gain a repeat flowering rose bush that also retained the wonderful strong fragrances of the old roses.

Electric Art

This is an English Rose that is about bloomed out. It really shows off the colorful petal. ..which is a beautiful orange/red. This was an early morning capture...with some indirect sunlight. The image has been converted to digital paintography.

Flower Garden Pictures Seven

We have flowers galore in our yard. Pictured here are an English Roses, a Day Lilies, a Mr. Lincoln Rose and a Yellow Dahlia.

We have a huge yard with lots of flowers. Lots of hanging baskets, grapes, blue berries, raspberries and of course two vegetable gardens.

Please enjoy!

A great and recommended book from Amazon: Flowers By Carolyne Roehm  (With a gardener’s understanding and a an elegant eye, the author shows us the flowers she has cultivated for decades in and around her historic Connecticut home. While alternating dramatic close-ups with portraits of lovely arrangements and sweeping views of her land, Roehm writes with wit, emotion, and affection of what flowers have meant to her, as well as of the joys and travails of the committed gardener’s life.)

More recommended books on flowers at the end of the post. If you like what you see on my blog, please help support it by checking out the recommended products. Thank you!

Flower Garden Pictures Six

One of the most unusual flower in our yard are Gladiolus. Mainly, because of color.

The hangup is the height. They get rather tall and sometimes grow at an angle and are hard to stake up.

The Hydrangea shown here is multi-colored. Mainly, because of soil content.

The English Roses are very robust and grow like mad...they require a lot of care but are beautiful.

Dahlias are my favorite! They are really diverse and require little care.

Flower Garden Pictures Five

Yet another post featuring the flowers in our yard. This time a Canna Lily, a Red Dahlia, an English Rose and a "What Is It?" flower.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the new blooms we are having in our yard in Oregon. What a dilemma!

Please take your time and enjoy the pictures of our flowers. I always think about the fact that they are
only with us a short time and then they go away until the following year. Please enjoy!

English Roses

We have many flowers in our yard and one of the most vibrant are the English Roses. We purchased five different varieties, years ago in St. Paul, Oregon at a place called "Heirloom Roses".

That's all Heirloom grows and they have it down.

Our English Roses grow like mad and, they climb like mad.  But, there is nothing like them. They come in numerous shapes, colors, miniature and full bloom sizes. There is a ton of varieties.

Books you should be reading. They are located at Amazon (Links): 1) The English Rose by David Austin  2) David Austin's English Roses I receive a small commission if you decide to purchase any of the books.
