View From The Boardwalk

Not far from Newport on the Central Oregon Coast is Toledo, Oregon!  Yes! It is named after Toledo, Ohio.

You are looking at the Port of Toledo which is located on the Yaquina River. Fall is starting to inch itself in.

Toledo is a mill town, with a major paper mill and lumber mill. And, also major boat repair facilities.

Above all, it is a quaint little town. Not too popular because most of the tourist go to Newport which is only seven miles away on the coast.

But, the tourist that bi-pass Toledo are missing out on a very cool place to visit!

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures, and then incorporating the results into a digital painting.

Floral Art

The English Rose is one of the most vibrant flowers in the world...full of life...full of color! And, they flourish beautifully where I live in the Pacific Northwest!

Another name for the English Rose is the Austin rose or, David Austin. They were introduced by him in 1969. His goal was to create rose bushes that would combine the best properties of the old roses, introduced before 1867, and  modern roses, such as Grandifloras.

To accomplish this, Austin crossed the old roses with some of the modern roses to gain a repeat flowering rose bush that also retained the wonderful strong fragrances of the old roses.

Pocket of Orange!

The "Pocket of Orange" come from the intense light that hitting the inner part (ovary) of the flower. Of course, this has been enhanced...some colors eliminated while other colors were enhanced.

The result is something a little abstract. However, we get down to the beauty of flowers and how they play a role in our lives.

If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Rhododendrons are extremely beautiful plants, flowers and come in a variety of colors. The blue rhody here was transformed into abstract form.

Not so much the bloom itself but, the background. It was photographed at a bed and breakfast just outside of Waldport on the Oregon Coast.

Abstract Dahlia

The Dahlia is the national flower of Mexico. Dahlias are perennial and indigenous to Mexico.

There are some forty two species. They are robust and very colorful!

Dahlias rejuvenate, at least in the coastal area I live in, starting in May through late summer. I combined this Dahlia image with a Fall background.

It sort of the end of the growing season for the Dahlia and the beginning of Fall! If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Florence Floral

More beautiful flowers than you can shake a stem at...floral on the banks of the Siuslaw River in Florence on the Oregon Coast!

This setting is next to a coffee shop in Old Town Florence. Unfortunately, the floral only lasts so long and I was able to capture it with a camera and preserve it for a while.

It's a fantastic view! Relax and let yourself go among the flowers and the river. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

For The Love Of Hydrangeas

Spend some time with the flowers...spend some time with the hydrangeas and they will reward you with their beauty and tranquility! Purple, pink who cares?

They are all robust and beautiful! Take care of them and they will take care of you!

Hydrangea is native to parts of Asia and the Americas. There are around 75 different species.

The ideal soil type for these plants is loam which is two fifths part sand, two fifths part silt mixed in with a layer of clay.

I am including two versions of this beautiful Hydrangea below. The bottom image is included on beach towels, phone cases, greeting cards, tote bags, tee shirts and so on.

The image has been converted to a digital painting that I hope you enjoy. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Yellow Iris

Schreiner's Iris Gardens is located north of Salem, Oregon. It is one of the finest Iris growing farms in the country.

They feature hundreds of different varieties/colors of Irises. Their featured gardens which are kept in immaculate shape year around, Irises or no Irises, really come into fruition in the spring.

Of course, this is a yellow Iris...a bearded Iris but, don't confuse it with a yellow flag Iris that is an  invasive ornamental perennial that can be a real problem.

Field Of Tulips

One of the best tulip farms is in Woodburn, Oregon. It is the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm and encompasses some forty acres of stunning and beautiful tulips.

They feature some 117 varieties of tulips. And, it seems that each tulip is a different color. Of course, that is an illusion.

What is not an illusion is this capture. It was made fairly close to the ground and it seems like there are tulips as far as the eye can see.

The image has been converted to a digital painting that I hope you enjoy. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Swan Island Dahlias

One of those very special and beautiful places in Oregon is the “Swan Island Dahlia Farm”. It’s right next to, maybe, heaven for flower lovers. And, it’s not even close to Swan Island (which is in Portland)….it's in Canby, Oregon which is way south of PDX.

It has to be the Dahlia Capitol of the World. If there are bigger and, most importantly, better Dahlia farms, I have no idea where they are.
