The Bay

The Bay..."Yaquina Bay" is located in Newport on the Central Oregon Coast. It is home to Oregon's and, probably the west coast's largest fishing fleet.

The fishing boats and the sail boat are caught in an early morning fog with just enough sun peaking through to make for a majestic scene.

It is a short distance to the jetty and to the Pacific Ocean. Commercial fishing and crabbing can be lucrative. However, it is a hard life. But, it is in the blood!

Part of the famous Yaquina Bay Bridge is in the background!

I processed the original capture into a HDR ( High Dynamic Range) photo by combining three different exposures. Next, I converted the image into an unusual digital painting.

Please enjoy!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse is one of the most popular lighthouses on the Oregon Coast. It is located at the north end of Newport and jets out about a mile from the main shoreline.

It can easily be seen from out at sea. It actually replaced a lighthouse that is only three miles away. Recently, it received a well deserved paint job.

Yaquina Head Light was first lit August 20, 1873, and automated in 1966. It is ninety three feet tall and is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon.

The lighthouse has even been in the movies: A setting for the "Moesko Island Lighthouse" in the 2002 film "The Ring"! It appeared in a 1983 movie "Hysterical" and, in "The Nancy Drew Mysteries"...the  episode "The Mystery of Pirate's Cove".

The lighthouse sits on some 100 acres and, includes The Yaquina Head Interpretive Center which opened in 1997.  Exhibits include the history and preservation of the lighthouse, and the marine life found in tide pools. The Center includes an excellent gift shop operated by "Friends Of Yaquina Lighthouses".

Evolution

Yaquina Bay in Newport, Oregon is home to Oregon's largest fishing fleet. It is also home to some cool looking fishing vessels.

And, most commercial fisherman take very good care of their boats. They have too to survive out at sea.

The scene is a drizzly, foggy morning at Dock 5 on the Historic Bayfront. Most boats are in, conditions at sea aren't real great and it is probably to dangerous to go out and fish due to sea conditions.

The image has been converted to a digital painting that I hope you enjoy. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Field Of Tulips

One of the best tulip farms is in Woodburn, Oregon. It is the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm and encompasses some forty acres of stunning and beautiful tulips.

They feature some 117 varieties of tulips. And, it seems that each tulip is a different color. Of course, that is an illusion.

What is not an illusion is this capture. It was made fairly close to the ground and it seems like there are tulips as far as the eye can see.

The image has been converted to a digital painting that I hope you enjoy. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Field of Flowers

Field of Flowers was taken at Schreiner's Iris Gardens in Salem, Oregon. Of course, they have acres and acres of Irises however, they co-mingle many different species of flowers with them.

Mind you, Irises don't bloom forever no matter how much love you give them. And, off season folks still visit their beautiful gardens and, can still take nature in at its best!

I converted the image into a digital painting to give it a different perspective.

French Prairie Gardens

Out in the country, away from all the hustle and bustle is French Prairie Gardens.  It is just one nice place, located in St.Paul, Oregon...about 45 minutes south of Portland.

Basically, it's a nursery, farm and store that features fresh produce. They have all kinds of activities for the family year around. A must place to visit if you live in the area.

However, at this time of the year, summer, one can't help but notice all the beautiful hanging baskets and flower gardens that are displayed.

They have the biggest hanging baskets I have ever seen and they are reasonably priced. Did I say the ice cream they feature is good?  Enjoy the photos!

Neighborhood Flowers Two

A continuation of neighborhood flowers...just spending a Sunday morning wandering around Oregon City, Oregon photographing any plant, flower that's cool.

One of the most amazing photos I took is of a hydroponic flower garden display.  It's located on a huge outside wall, part of a once hydroponic shop, that use to teach the craft but, apparently no longer does.

The Gladiolas keep blooming this is a red one and orange one.   So far we have had green, yellow and burgundy ones bloom and have featured them here.

The green gladiola had been the most unusual and was the first to bloom.  It's still going.

Almost every place you go in Oregon, you can find an abundance of  wildflowers.  It's a part of nature.

I don't know all the names of them, but it's fun to take photos of them as you walk along trails and roads.
All of this is just minutes from my home. Please enjoy Oregon nature at it's best!

Summer Flowers In Oregon City Part 3

Wow! I have had a really good response on my flower posts.  We will be sad when they all lose their blooms.

One flower in particular that is coming into flirtation are the gladiolus.  My wife planted an assorted bag of them and had no idea how they would come out.  So far a green one and two others...a burgundy and a yellow.

Canna Lilies - What's Not To Love

Some of the most gorgeous flowers in any yard are Canna Lilies.  However, our red ones are getting to the point of blooming out.

They are not a true lily, so to speak, but who cares?  They are perennials, have vivid colors, and they are easy to grow.  Not all flowers share that  distinction.
