Fishing Fleet In Yaquina Bay

Newport, Oregon on the Central Coast boosts the largest fishing fleet in Oregon. There is easy access and, a fairly tame bar to cross to get to the Pacific Ocean.

Good fishing and crabbing makes for an excellent port for the fisherman. Yaquina Bay and the Yaquina Bay Bridge are in the background.

You can tell by the static crab rings on the boats that crabbing is at a standstill and many boats are in port.

This is a photograph that I have added texture to give a unique painting effect.

The Irish Miss

This classic fishing vessel is moored in Yaquina Bay in Newport on the Oregon Coast. Newport boosts the largest fishing fleet in Oregon, if not the Pacific Coast.

It is foggy out with just a tad bit of sunshine, allowing for a unique capture. In the the background is the Historic Bayfront and, on the hill in the background is the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center.

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures, and then incorporating the results into a digital painting.

Last Straw

This cool fishing vessel (F/V Last Straw) is moored at Dock 5 in Newport on the Oregon Coast. What was interesting, other than the boat, was the light.

Conditions were just right for a remarkable capture! Check out the cloud formation. There is just enough sun to accent the clouds.

Newport has the largest fishing fleet on the Oregon, if not the entire West Coast. The fishing and crab boats enjoy a quick trip to the Pacific with a (usually) tame Bar to cross!

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures to give the image more detail and color.

Chelsea Rose And The Tall Ships

The Chelsea Rose, a permanently docked old fishing boat is over 100 years old. It is moored on Dock 5 on Newport, Oregon's Historic Bayfront. For years, folks from all over have been buying freshly caught fish and crabs right off the Chelsea Rose.

The boat needs extensive repairs, to the point that they are probably going to send her to the boat graveyard. When the time comes it will sadden many because it has been a landmark on the bay front for so many years.

Next to the Chelsea are two visiting Tall Ships..."Lady Washington" and the "Hawaiian Chieftain".

Lotus And The Dinghies

The "Lotus" is a yacht moored in South Lake Union in Seattle, Washington. The Lotus was built in 1909 and was the largest private yacht on the West Coast at that time.

She also possessed all the latest amenities of the time: electric lighting and even a state-of-the-art intercom system. Presently, you can reserve the Lotus for weddings and parties.

Kylie Lynn

The scene is Yaquina Bay, Dock 5, located in Newport on the Oregon Coast. "Kylie Lynn" has probably just returned after a night's fishing off the Oregon Coast.

The F/V Kylie Lynn is a commercial fishing boat with a length of 73 feet and a breadth of 22 Feet. She was built in 1987.

Newport has the largest fishing fleet in Oregon if not the West Coast!

Fresh Live Crab

The scene is Dock 5 in Yaquina Bay, located in Newport on the Oregon Coast. Newport is Oregon's largest fishing port.

Chances are the fishing/crab boats are just returning after a nights fishing and crabbing off the Oregon Coast. Notice where the American Flag is...there are two big tubs there full of dungeness
crab !

Bandon Boat Basin At Dawn

This is part of the Bandon waterfront and boat basin, located on the Southern Oregon Coast. You can't see the Pacific Ocean in the background but, you can see the Coquille River Lighthouse off to the right.

No breeze, so Old Glory is not flying.

Bandon is a very unusual place. It is small, and has a charm not readily found elsewhere. It has undoubtedly the most pristine beaches in the world. And, you can take a stroll on the beach and not see anyone else!

The Showboat

The "Showboat" is really a house boat moored in Toledo, Oregon which is seven miles east of Newport on the Oregon Coast. She sits on the Yaquina River and is colorful to say the least.

Up close, it looks ship shape and ready to sail. Toledo...yes, named after Toledo, Ohio is a cool little mill town and major boat repair place. This image has been converted to a digital painting.

Center For Wooden Boats Seattle

When visiting Seattle, Washington one of the things you need to do is visit “The Center For Wooden Boats”! It is located on South Union Lake and is fairly close to the downtown area.

It was founded in the 1970's, contains a museum and, is dedicated in traditional boat education for people of all ages. There are more than 170 vessels that are mainly small sailboats and rowboats.

Crab Trap Art

This nostalgic fishing boat is getting ready to go out into the Pacific and catch some Dungeness Crab! The crab rings (traps) are sitting out on the deck.

They are ready to be thrown overboard, once they are out in the ocean and, have found the right place to catch crab...usually close to shore.

The Crabbers use fish carcasses to lure crabs into the traps. Dungeness Crab is one of the best eating in the world.

The setting is in Newport on the Central Oregon Coast. This image has been converted to a digital painting.

These are scenes from Yaquina Bay in Newport, on the Oregon Coast. Newport boasts the largest fishing fleet in Oregon.

However, it's not all fishing boats, e.g.; the Tall Ship below.

Nautical Art

This is Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast. And, they boast the smallest harbor in the world.

Go under the bridge and you are in the Pacific Ocean...a very short trip! Depoe Bay was named for Siletz Indian Charles "Charley" Depot in 1894.

Part of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and part of the movie "Burning Plain" was filmed in Depoe Bay. Also, it is a hotbed of tourism...a very popular place for folks to visit! This image has been converted to Digital Paintography.

It is early in the morning and there is a hint of some rare sunshine coming up. In the the background are fishing boats...part of the largest fishing fleet on the Oregon Coast. And, off to the left is the Embarcadaro Resort.

Dock Art

This cool wooden boat sits at a Yaquina River dock in Toledo, Oregon. Guessing it is a 1920's-30's style boat.

It looked to be pretty much restored. Toledo is seven miles inland from Newport on the Central Oregon Coast. Wooden boats, of any type seem to have that nostalgic look and feel whereas, everything in today's world is fiberglass.

Fishing Vessel Wall Art

Newport on the Central Oregon Coast has the largest fishing fleet in Oregon. One of the main reasons for this is a fairly accessible bar to cross.

Since I reside in Newport, it is easy to capture different fishing vessels in all types of settings. Most fishing boats are moored next to the Historic Bayfront.

Yes! You can purchase these image in a variety of ways, wall art, life style, apparel, greeting cards, home decor, phone cases, mugs. Please see the link below each image!

Fishing Vessel Wall Art (LINK) "Thunder" is an old fishing vessel (F/V). Fishing is her pleasure...rain or shine! She is rough and tough but, that's what the fishing business is all about.
F/V Sylvia (LINK) The "Sylvia is moored by herself on the Bayfront so I was able to get an exclusive shot of her. In February of 2014, the F/V (Fishing Vessel) Sylvia was at sea and reported taking on water, that her pumps could not stay ahead of the leak. Bad news! The Coast Guard went to the rescue. However, the crew of the Sylvia were able to fire up a third pump which helped immensely. The Coast Guard installed another pump yet, got the water level down and patched the leak. The original image was converted into a digital painting.

Port Of Newport Dock No 7 (LINK) You can visit many docksides, here and there but, you will find that the ones in Newport on the Oregon Coast are working docks. This means that the fishing boats are not just for show, they go out to sea and catch fish and crab and bring them back to the dockside canneries. Lots of hard work! Usually, during fishing and  crabbing seasons these docks are a beehive of activity. When this scene was captured the bar and seas were rough and everyone was in port. Don't let the blue skys fool you! It was a peaceful scene...nobody was out fishing however, some were working on their boats to get them prepared for the next good fishing day! This image was converted into a digital painting!
Cod Father (LINK) The Cod Father is the fishing vessel just right of the Challenge. The setting is early morning and the sun is shining brightly on the Historic Bayfront off to the right.
Evolution (LINK) Most commercial fisherman take very good care of their boats. They have too to survive out at sea. The scene is a drizzly, foggy morning at Dock 5 on the Historic Bayfront. Most boats are in, conditions at sea aren't real great and it is probably to dangerous to go out and fish due to sea conditions. This image has been converted to a digital painting.
Old Dragger Boat (LINK) Toledo, Oregon is the home to this cool old Dragger Boat. Most folks call them trawlers. Either term is just fine! Looking it over, it looked to be a retired Dragger. The boat has obviously been reconditioned...nice white paint and the mahogany trim refurbished. Back to the setting. Toledo is seven miles inland from Newport on the Oregon Coast. They share the same river, the Yaquina. As you take the Old Bay Road from Newport to Toledo, you run across these docks that these cool old boats are moored at.

Buoys And Crab Ring Wall Art

Buoys intermingled with crab rings! The setting is a bay front on the Oregon Coast early in the morning with the minimum of sunlight.

Fishing boats are preparing to go out and set the crab rings not far from shore in the Pacific. It's a lot of hard work throwing the crab rings overboard and retrieving them hours later.

Every crabber has there own distinctive buoys so that they know who's is what!

You can purchase this image in a variety of ways, wall art, life style, apparel, greeting cards, home decor, phone cases, beach. please see the link below this image and /or the slide shows below and, on the left side bar!

Boat Wall Art

The F/V (Fishing Vessel) Blue Scoop is moored in Yaquina Bay in Newport on the Oregon Coast. She is a working boat that goes out into the Pacific Ocean in search of fish and crab.

She and her crew work hard but, they wouldn't have it any other way! I thought the "Blue Scoop" not just as another one of those fishing boats. There's a wheelbarrow on the deck for hauling the days catch.

I thought that the capture would make for nice wall art!

The image has been converted to a digital painting that I hope you enjoy. If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!

Little Red Boat!

Newport, Oregon is home to the largest fishing fleet on the Oregon Coast. A fairly easy bar to cross, plus, crabbing and the fishing are among the most plentiful on the coast.

The "Little Red Boat" stood out at the Pier because of its bright red paint. And, it was one of the smallest boats at the dock.

I added texture to give it a painting-like effect.

If you would like to explore this image, or others, please see links below!
