The Irish Miss

This classic fishing vessel is moored in Yaquina Bay in Newport on the Oregon Coast. Newport boosts the largest fishing fleet in Oregon, if not the Pacific Coast.

It is foggy out with just a tad bit of sunshine, allowing for a unique capture. In the the background is the Historic Bayfront and, on the hill in the background is the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center.

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures, and then incorporating the results into a digital painting.

Last Straw

This cool fishing vessel (F/V Last Straw) is moored at Dock 5 in Newport on the Oregon Coast. What was interesting, other than the boat, was the light.

Conditions were just right for a remarkable capture! Check out the cloud formation. There is just enough sun to accent the clouds.

Newport has the largest fishing fleet on the Oregon, if not the entire West Coast. The fishing and crab boats enjoy a quick trip to the Pacific with a (usually) tame Bar to cross!

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures to give the image more detail and color.

Yaquina Bay Bridge Reflections

The Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport on the Oregon Coast is one of the most recognizable bridges in Oregon. It was constructed in 1936 to span Yaquina Bay from Newport, to what now is called South Beach.

Before, the only way to cross the Bay was by Ferry. And, in those days crossing could be a little treacherous.

This particular capture was made from South Beach, looking west. In the foreground, are wild rose bushes and, you can spot the rose hips this time of year.

The boats pictured are mainly pleasure boats and sailboats. Off to the left, is the world headquarters for Rogue Brewing Co.!

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures to give the image more detail and color. Texture was added for a unique final image!

Newport has the largest fishing fleet in Oregon if not the West Coast!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse Art

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse (Newport, Oregon) is one of the most visited lighthouses on the  Oregon Coast!  It jets out about a mile from the main shoreline and can easily be seen from out at sea.

It was built in 1872 to replace a lighthouse that was only three miles away. The lighthouse stands ninety three feet tall and is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon.

Fishing Fleet Art

The "Little J" is a member of one of the largest fishing fleet in Oregon. She is based in Newport on the Central Oregon Coast.

The morning light is perfect! The Little J is sort of all by herself and, of course cool reflections coming off of her.

In the background is Yaquina Bay and the Bay Bridge. The Coast Guard Station is off to the right, closest to the bridge.

You can purchase this image in a variety of ways, wall art, life style, apparel, greeting cards, home decor, phone cases, beach. please see the link below this image and /or the slide shows below and, on the left side bar!

Stars and Stripes

There is this place in Newport, Oregon on the Historic Bayfront where these stars and stripes fly. It is called Ocean Bleu at Gino's.

It is a seafood market and restaurant. Gino's is located on Bay Boulevard right across the street from Yaquina Bay.

Besides having great food, Gino's has rather rustic, whimsical, or what ever term you want to call their extensive decorations. Below is an old ship mast with two American Flags attached to the mast.

Mind you, the flags are not in the greatest of shape. The wind blows like mad off the bay and the weather is not conducive to keeping things looking brand new.

Anyway, I Couldn't help but capture the scene. I have a version I made into a rather large poster that hangs in my home. Everybody just loves it!

Beach Tote Bags - Get Beachy!

Featuring some cool "Beachy Tote Bags"!  So why not get "Beachy"?

Since I live on the Oregon Coast in Newport, I have featured some of my favorite shots taken at various places on the coast.

All the photo art here is mine. You won't see these tote bags at the big box stores.

One of the most recognizable bridges in Oregon is the Yaquina Bay Bridge. It is art deco in style and was completed in 1936. It is still beautiful after all these years. It is featured on several of the totes here.

Besides Newport, Bandon Beach which is close to Coos Bay is one of my favorite places. In Bandon, the Coquille River Lighthouse, Horse Back Riding On The Beach, The Boardwalk and "After The Storm" is featured.

The Alsea Bay Bridge, which is in Waldport on the Coast, plus the "Sea Bench" in Yachats is featured.

Back to Newport, I featured the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and the "Newport Belle" which is a floating bed and breakfast.

All the links under the illustrated tote bags lead to my artist website "Thom Zehrfeld Photography".

The totes are $23.00 to start for a small tote...$26 for a larger tote. So, get an original beachy thing today!

Pacific Maritime & Heritage Center

The Pacific Maritime & Heritage Center is located in Newport, Oregon. It is is located at 333 SE Bay Blvd.

It is a first-class  museum full of maritime educational material and exhibits. Before it was a maritime museum it was Gracie's At Smuggler's Cove...a restaurant and entertainment facility.

It has received major renovations since it was Gracie's and continues to grow and grow.

Below is just a smattering of what is in the museum. Most interesting for my wife and I were the Japanese Fish Prints or, Gyotaku (Fishing Rubbing). You might want to do a little research on Google about it. It is phenomenal!

Maybe next up was the old surfboards that go back, way back before I thought they did. They were made from wood and, many are works of art in themselves.

Best Vacation Spots | Newport, Oregon

Maybe I'm partial, since I live in Newport, Oregon that, just maybe it's one of the best vacation spots on the Oregon Coast. There is a lot to do and there are some great accommodations to be had!

Probably the best know attractions in Newport are the "Oregon Coast Aquarium" and the "Mark Hatfield Marine Science Center". Both are located in South Beach across the Yaquina Bay Bridge.

You can easily spend a day, or even two exploring both. Then there is the Nye Beach District!

However, the focus here is on the Historic Bayfront Area which houses multiple cool restaurants, shops, fish processing plants and the largest fishing fleet on the Oregon Coast.

What I like to do is arm myself with a camera and just walk down the Bayfront and take pictures. I have done this multiple times and still come up with something new every time.

The photos here are random but, you'll get the idea!

Sister Cities | Mombetsu, Japan And Newport Oregon

The City of Mombetsu, Japan located in northeast Hokkaido and Newport, Oregon are sister cities.  They formed this relationship in 1966.

Ten years later, in 1976, the Rotary Club in Newport built a dedicated park on Southwest Neff Way in honor of its sister city. It's small!

It is a little over a half acre but, what there is, is beautiful and, meticulously cared for.

It's located on side street and sort of out of the way. Worse, you can drive right by it and not see it.

Just too bad that it couldn't have been constructed in one of the tourist areas like Nye Beach, not just for the locals to see but, the tourist, too!
