Tom McCall Waterfront Park Artwork

This is the walkway along Tom McCall Waterfont Park, bordering the Willamette River. The Portland Maritime Museum is the boat off to the right.

Given any day, Portlanders love to walk along the river and take in the tranquility of the area. The Waterfront Park is downtown and, is very convenient for folks, who work in the area to take a nice walk during the lunch hour.

However, this capture was made on a Sunday and, many of the folks on a walk here come from all over. The Morrison Bridge is in the background and the high rises are on the east side. This image has been converted into a digital painting,

Morrison Bridge Art

The Morrison Bridge is located in Portland, Oregon (PDX)! It is one of many bridges in Portland, which is also known as "Bridge City" because of the many bridges that cross the Willamette River.

What is unique about this capture are the reflections of light coming off of the Morrison Bridge. Usually the water is not this still and it results in very little distortion of the colorful lights, red, yellow, green and blue coming off the bridge.

The Morrison is a basule bridge (drawbridge). This particular capture was taken as a panorama. It picks up almost the entire bridge and part of skyline downtown. However, the focal point of the image is really the light on the water.

Oregon City Attractions-McLoughlin Promenade

There are a lot of cool things to do in Oregon City, Oregon.  One of them is to walk along the McLoughlin Promenade. It features a gorgeous view!

It's located on a high bluff overlooking downtown and the Willamette River.  You can access it from the Oregon City Elevator or by walking up the "Depression Era" stairway.

Located on approximately 8 acres, it follows the contour of the bluff.

Going south you will view the Oregon City Falls from up high.  Going north you cross under the Singer Hill Street and onto the historic John McLoughlin and Barclay houses.

A View From The Oregon City Promenade

Took some photos of the Blue Heron Paper Mill and the West Linn Paper Mill from atop the Oregon City Promenade. The Blue Heron Mill is no longer running and is being salvaged.


The first shot is facing North toward the Oregon City and I205 bridges, not the mills. Note the fisherman in the "Hog Line" on the Willamette River fishing for salmon. Mt. St. Helens is way in the background.


There was an editorial, a couple years ago, by some Oregon City lady stating that the Blue Heron Mill was an "eyesore" to the community.  It wasn't too long ago that this "eyesore" was one of the biggest, if not the biggest contributor to the economies of  Oregon City and Clackamas County.


Personally,  I worked in the West Linn Mill (Crown Zellerbach) on the paper machines while I was in college and I worked for Publishers Paper Company (Blue Heron) for a total of 23 years.


Techie Stuff: These photos were taken around 5:30 AM. I shot single frames in Aperture Priority Mode using a tripod.  Later I converted the RAW files in Photoshop Elements, converting them into three different exposures...EV-2 EV0 EV+2. Loaded those exposures into Photomatix and converted them to High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR).  Brought them back into PSE and finalized them.

Jon Storm Park

Jon Storm Park

Just south of the Clackamette Park in Oregon City is the Jon Storm Park. It's small but has a cool view great picnic area and it features a huge boat dock on the Willamette River.

Below are some shots of school age kids in a Dragon Boat...little later here they are going to get extensive instructions on just how to paddle a boat like this.  Portland is known for competitive Dragon Boat racing...it's a big deal around Rose Festival time!

The Park is right next to the I205 Bridge that spans the river. Folks often moor their boats at the dock and during the summer months tie up and spend the night. Why not?
