Kylie Lynn

The scene is Yaquina Bay, Dock 5, located in Newport on the Oregon Coast. "Kylie Lynn" has probably just returned after a night's fishing off the Oregon Coast.

The F/V Kylie Lynn is a commercial fishing boat with a length of 73 feet and a breadth of 22 Feet. She was built in 1987.

Newport has the largest fishing fleet in Oregon if not the West Coast!

In the background, is the bay front with the lower turquoise building being an Inn.

This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures, and then incorporating the results into a digital painting.

Underneath The Yaquina Bay Bridge

This capture was made underneath the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport on the Central Oregon Coast. The bridge spans Yaquina Bay. The view is from South Beach looking north.

It was built in 1936 in the art deco style. It is one of the most recognizable bridges on Route 101 and was designed by Conde McCullough.

Before the bridge was built the only way to get across the bay was by ferry.

Bandon Boat Basin At Dawn

This is part of the Bandon waterfront and boat basin, located on the Southern Oregon Coast. You can't see the Pacific Ocean in the background but, you can see the Coquille River Lighthouse off to the right.

No breeze, so Old Glory is not flying.

Bandon is a very unusual place. It is small, and has a charm not readily found elsewhere. It has undoubtedly the most pristine beaches in the world. And, you can take a stroll on the beach and not see anyone else!

Pullman Car Art

Virginia City, Nevada is home to this elegant Pullman Car. It sits out below the main street of town.

There is also a small collection of cabooses, on display along with this Car. The door on the back says "Private". Just a guess, but maybe it belonged to a railroad magnate at one time.

"Pullman Cars" are railroad sleeping cars and, are named after George Pullman who founded the company that built them, starting in the eighteen hundreds.

Barnacle Art

The scene is Seal Rock Beach is on the Central Oregon Coast...10 miles south of Newport. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Oregon with numerous tide pools to investigate!

Seal Rock Beach has large off-shore rock formations where you can observe seal, sea lion, sea birds,and other marine life. It also provides excellent ocean views and a sandy beach.

This particular rock in the foreground is chuck full of barnacles. This image has been converted to digital paintography.

Depoe Bay Art

This beautiful scene is of Arch Rock in Depoe Bay, Oregon. It is an extreme high tide!

Arch Rock is an outcropping on the left. Depoe Bay is a landmark on the Oregon Coast. It boosts the smallest port of anywhere in Oregon.

Yes, movies have been shot in Depoe Bay...the fishing trip sequence in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was filmed in Depoe Bay. In 2008, restaurant scenes from "The Burning Plain" was filmed, actually on the same balcony of the restaurant where this photo was taken.

Port Art

"Buy Your Crab Here!" Chances are the fishing/crab boats are just returning after a night's fishing and crabbing off the Oregon Coast.

The scene is Dock 5 in Yaquina Bay, located in Newport on the Oregon Coast. Newport has the largest fishing fleet in Oregon.

Plenty of room to moor and, a rather safe bar to cross into the Pacific Ocean makes fishing and crabbing more feasible than many other locations on the Oregon Coast.

Harbor Art

These are scenes from Yaquina Bay in Newport, on the Oregon Coast. Newport boasts the largest fishing fleet in Oregon.

However, it's not all fishing boats, e.g.; the Tall Ship below.

Chelsea Rose And The Tall Ship (LINK) The Chelsea Rose, a permanently docked old fishing boat is over 100 years old. It is moored on Dock 3 on Newport, Oregon's Historic Bayfront. For years, folks from all over have been buying freshly caught fish and crabs right off the Chelsea Rose. The boat needs extensive repairs, to the point that they are probably going to send her to the boat graveyard. When the time comes it will sadden many because it has been a landmark on the Bayfront for so many years. Next to the Chelsea is a visiting Tall Ship...the "Hawaiian Chieftain".

The Fishing Fleet In Yaquina Bay (LINK) Easy access, a fairly tame bar to cross to the Pacific Ocean, good fishing and crabbing makes for an excellent port for the fisherman. Yaquina Bay and the Yaquina Bay Bridge are in the background. You can tell by the static crab rings on the boats that crabbing is at a standstill and many boats are in port.

Sylvia (LINK) In February of 2014, the F/V (Fishing Vessel) Sylvia was at sea and reported taking on water, that her pumps could not stay ahead of the leak. Bad news! The Coast Guard went to the rescue. However, the crew of the Sylvia were able to fire up a third pump which helped immensely. The Coast Guard installed another pump yet, got the water level down and patched the leak. This capture has been converted to a paintography image.

Thunder (LINK) She is an old fishing vessel. Fishing is her pleasure...rain or shine! She is rough and tough but, that's what the fishing business is all about.

Historic Home Art

This is one of the many beautiful homes located in the Carson City, Nevada Historic District. Most folks visit Nevada to gamble and carry on.

The Historic District in the State Capital is an absolute must place to visit. Basically, pick a nice day and take in all the beautiful and historic homes...it's a great walking tour!

The tour starts downtown. You can do it on you own or, go on a guided tour.

Nautical Art

This is Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast. And, they boast the smallest harbor in the world.

Go under the bridge and you are in the Pacific Ocean...a very short trip! Depoe Bay was named for Siletz Indian Charles "Charley" Depot in 1894.

Part of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and part of the movie "Burning Plain" was filmed in Depoe Bay. Also, it is a hotbed of tourism...a very popular place for folks to visit! This image has been converted to Digital Paintography.

Covered Bridge Art

This is the Weddle Bridge in Sweet Home, Oregon. It is a 120 foot long wooden covered bridge.

The original bridge was built in 1937 and, rebuilt in 1990. The bridge originally spanned Thomas Creek.

In 1989, a Sweet Home group rebuilt the Weddle Bridge across Ames Creek in Sankey Park.

I combined a High Dynamic Range image with an unusual texture to give it a painted look. At one time Oregon had more covered bridges than any state west of the Mississippi!

The Meteor by Thom Zehrfeld

This is a old flatbed truck. It has seen better days. It sits on a farm in Oregon. Most of it is rusted out, cracked and ready to bite the dust. However, there is a charm about it that can't be duplicated...that charm being an era that will never be again! It is a brand called "Meteor"! Mercury produced a "Meteor" but it sure doesn't look like this! This capture was made using three different exposures and combining the results into a High Dynamic Range Photograph (HDR). Coquille River Lighthouse by Thom Zehrfeld

The original name of the Coquille River Lighthouse in Bandon, Oregon was the Bandon Light" and commissioned in 1895. The lighthouse became active in 1896. The light helped boaters avoid dangerous sandbars in the Coquille River and led them safely into the harbor at Bandon. The light contained a fourth-order Fresnel lens. In 1936, a large fire swept through Bandon and destroyed much of the town. Bandon became bankrupt. There was a decline in shipping and, the lighthouse was shut down. It was replaced by an automated light on the south jetty. So basically, the Coquille River Lighthouse has not been an active lighthouse for decades! However, that doesn't mean it never gets visited or photographed. The setting is magnificent! The Coquille River Lighthouse is located in Bandon, Oregon! Japanese Maple by Thom Zehrfeld

The Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon is one of the most authentic Japanese-style gardens outside of Japan. The Gardens that comprise some five and half acres signify what a garden was meant to evoke in pre-modern Japan.This image displayed here is one of the most photographed Japanese Maples in the world and, one of the most beautiful trees in the world! It was captured late Fall on a very rainy, overcast day in the Japanese Gardens. It is a magnificent place to visit should you ever decide to come to Portland, Oregon (PDX). Humpty Dumpty Hot Air Balloon by Thom Zehrfeld

The Humpty Dumpty Hot Air Balloon was photographed at an annual hot air balloon festival in Tigard, Oregon. A gala three day event in late spring. Kids, adults just love to watch and ride in the colorful hot air balloons. The balloon is directly overhead and appears to be coming straight down on you! This capture was made using three different exposures and combining the results into a High Dynamic Range Photograph (HDR). The Pagoda by Thom Zehrfeld

This is the Pagoda at the Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon. One of the most authentic and largest Japanese gardens outside of Japan! The Pagoda is not far from the entrance to the Gardens. It actually covers up an ugly fire hydrant since the City of Portland insists that they have them in case of an emergency...which makes a lot of sense in case of a fire. The cover up is an excellent idea since a hydrant just sitting out in those beautiful gardens would be a distraction. 1938 Ford Convertible by Thom Zehrfeld

A classic 1938 Ford Convertible! A patriotic scene...not staged with the American Flag, proudly displayed on this old vintage car. Closer inspection of the Ford will yield a car for parts and not one that has been restored. The car has been sitting in a field for awhile with the top down and, in a rainy location that is not good!
